you mentioned libvirtd and vfio, which happens to be my use case too, and yours works. I am very, very close to abandoning this device altogether. Just for the sake of completness I forced mentioned pcihp, but I am not going to rip out the card from my mobo I'll grab some spare SSD and drop Linux on my laptop later to see if issue exists there. I have PCIe x1 desktop card, but by pure luck I have same ExpressCard controller. The thread also references it being used on a laptop, which throws in a sizable chunk of power management quirks and BIOS hacks, on top of it being ExpressCard device.

I did some searching and scanning through the interwebs but I'm having a difficult time finding anything about non-card based Renesas controllers (internal laptop controller).Ĭan anyone confirm if there is a working driver for internal NEC / Renesas USB 3.0 controllers on laptops? I read about the improvements in 10.8.2 for USB 3.0. It's been a few months since I've checked up for new USB 3.0 supprot for NEC / Renesas. So far I've been able to deal with this because my USB 3.0 drives are just being using for backups. So the USB 3.0 ports do work, but not for USB 3.0 devices. However, I can get USB 2.0 devices to work in the USB 3.0 ports.
I plan on posting a guide but want to wait until I try updating to 10.8.3 and see how things go.Ĭurrently, the only major issue I have is USB 3.0 devices not working in my USB 3.0 ports. Thanks to this forum (and some others), my Dell Inspiron 17R N7110 laptop has been up and running 10.8 great for a while.
